SUMMARY:Integrating EMDR and Couples Therapy
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores the integration of EMDR therapy into couples therapy\, addressing \nthe challenges therapists face when combining these modalities. A dialectical theory of \nrelationships will be described\, highlighting fusion and pathological dependency as \nfoundations of couples’ conflicts. The workshop emphasizes bringing individual focus into \nsystemically informed couples therapy\, utilizing insights from individual psychotherapy\, \nincluding EMDR. Participants will learn to integrate individual and systemic dimensions\, \naddressing horizontal (current patterns) and vertical (historical influences) axes of inquiry. \nParticipants will learn about forms of pathological dependency in couples and a 5-step \nmethod for transitioning from horizontal to vertical assessment.
