SUMMARY:From Eye to "I": Transforming Attachment and Identity with EMDR Therapy
DESCRIPTION:In Day One\, participants will explore attachment and identity formation\, and the relationship between family dynamics and ego structure. Reenactments from the family of origin\, and their materialization as ego state conflict in individual and conjoint therapy will be described. This paves the way to understand dissociative personality structure and its relational manifestations. \nIn Day Two\, participants will learn a model for EMDR-based assessment and treatment planning using a model original to the author: The Domains of Self Experience (D.O.S.E.). This model allows the clinician to rapidly identify salient negative cognitions and predict the trajectory of the therapy. Next\, participants will learn a progression of techniques to control and focus desensitization within the optimal zone of arousal. \nFinally\, participants will learn and practice a new and powerful technique for attachment repair: The I-Gaze Interweave. This interactive workshop will include practicum\, videotape\, and didactic material designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of this exciting new integrative Model. \n\nParticipants who complete this workshop will be able to:\n\nExplain the structural components of relationship essential to attunement and forming a secure therapeutic attachment.\nDescribe the power of the “attachment cry” as an organizing dynamic in relationship.\nDescribe three different models of dissociative personality structure.\nIdentify signs and symptoms of dissociative personality structure in their clients.\nUtilize state-of-the-art techniques for working with ego states in EMDR Therapy.\nApply a typology of “self-experience” and be able to rapidly identify salient negative cognitions for EMDR targeting.\nDescribe the zone of optimal processing for efficient and safe reprocessing.\nDescribe four varieties of suboptimal processing and identify strategies for intervention.\nUtilize somatic interweaves for maintaining their clients within the zone of optimal processing.\nExplain the indications and contraindications for utilizing the I-Gaze Interweave.\nUtilize the I-Gaze Interweave for attachment repair during phase four of the 8 phase EMDR protocol.\n\nSchedule\nFriday\, March 6th through Saturday\, March 7th 9:00 am – 5:00 pm \nRegistration begins at 8:30 am on both days.\nYou will have two 15-minute breaks each day.\nYou will 1 hour for lunch on your own both days. \nVenue Information\nThe workshop will be held at the\nUniversity of Virginia Inn at Darden\n10 Duffy Boulevard\nCharlottesville\, VA 22903\n(434) 297-7384 \n\nA block of rooms has been reserved at the University of Virginia Inn at Darden for a discounted rate. SUMMARY:THE MARRIAGE OF EMDR AND EGO STATE THEORY IN COUPLES THERAPY
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will describe an EMDR-based approach to couples therapy combing the best of individual and systemic ideas. \nDysfunctional patterns of relating in the family of origin can imprint themselves on the relational template of adults\, only to be re-enacted in the contemporary couples relationship. \nBecause EMDR can be effective at transforming these earlier relational traumas\, adults can become less reactive\, enjoy greater distress tolerance\, and have a more resilient ego boundary. \nThus\, EMDR is an invaluable tool in couples therapy. After examining the role and manifestations of dissociation and fusion in couples dynamics\, participants will learn a method for turning “relational problems” into psychological solutions by utilizing EMDR in their conjoint Therapy. \nParticipants who complete this workshop will be able to:\n\nUtilize knowledge gained to evaluate repetition compulsions or reenactments in their client couples. (Phase 3)\nDesign sessions to optimize trust and motivation to do the needed work for change. (Phase 2)\nIdentify negative cognitions based on reenactments identified in therapy. (Phase 3)\nDescribe the indications and contraindications for conducting conjoint EMDR sessions with client couples. (Phases 3\, 4)\nCreate and implement a model for transitioning from relational transactions to the individual focus needed to engage in EMDR. (Phase 2\, 3)\n\nSchedule\nSunday\, March 8th 9am – 5pm \nRegistration begins at 8:30am.\nYou will have two 15-minute breaks.\nYou will 1 hour for lunch on your own. \nHotel and Venue Information\nTo book your room at a discounted rate\, please call 434-297-7384 and reference the “Human Dynamics” event. \nThis workshop will be held in facilities which are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is often assumed that clinicians just know intuitively what that looks like\, but often we don’t. In this keynote address\, Barry Litt breaks down dialogue to its elemental components and reveals the universal foundations of dialogue and trust. \nBarry Litt received his Masters degree in Family Therapy in Philadelphia where he studied contextual therapy with its founder\, Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy. Barry is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. He has authored three chapters in as many books plus a journal article on the integration of EMDR with couples and family therapy\, has presented workshops at numerous conferences and provided many workshop trainings to international audiences. Barry is dedicated to advancements in theoretical integration and technical innovation in EMDR therapy.

SUMMARY:The I-gaze Interweave for Attachment Repair in EMDR Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Summary\nThe I-Gaze interweave is an intersubjective\, dyadic resource to facilitate resolution of attachment trauma. This four-part training begins with the Domains of Self model: a heuristic for rapid assessment for differentiating attachment trauma from relational or shock traumas. The second part describes the zone of optimal arousal – a model that guides the therapist to assessing stability in Phase 4 and remedy over arousal. The third part describes somatic interweaves for regulating autonomic arousal. The workshop concludes with the I-Gaze Interweave for attachment repair in phase 4. Interweave-specific transference and countertransference phenomenon will be examined for their diagnostic and prognostic value. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nTo learn a typology of “self-experience” and be able to rapidly identify salient negative cognition for EMDR targeting.\nTo describe the zone of optimal processing for efficient and safe reprocessing.\nTo describe four varieties of suboptimal processing and identify strategies for intervention.\nTo utilize somatic interweaves for maintaining their clients within the zone of optimal processing.\nTo utilize the I-Gaze interweave for attachment repair during phase four of the 8 phase EMDR protocol.

SUMMARY:Integrating EMDR and Couples Therapy
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores the integration of EMDR therapy into couples therapy\, addressing \nthe challenges therapists face when combining these modalities. A dialectical theory of \nrelationships will be described\, highlighting fusion and pathological dependency as \nfoundations of couples’ conflicts. The workshop emphasizes bringing individual focus into \nsystemically informed couples therapy\, utilizing insights from individual psychotherapy\, \nincluding EMDR. Participants will learn to integrate individual and systemic dimensions\, \naddressing horizontal (current patterns) and vertical (historical influences) axes of inquiry. \nParticipants will learn about forms of pathological dependency in couples and a 5-step \nmethod for transitioning from horizontal to vertical assessment. Participants will learn \nseveral critical treatment considerations for implementing this integrative approach\, \nincluding session management\, avoiding common pitfalls\, and conjoint EMDR (phase four \nwith the partner present). \nSee the podcast about this topic: https://youtu.be/wJ0zJf0SzlU?si=ZJAE2BpLPtTH3XKq \nGet the handout here: Integrating EMDR and Couples Therapy Handout

SUMMARY:EMDR for Parts Integration with I-Gaze
DESCRIPTION:EMDR for Parts Integration with I-Gaze (13 CEs)  \nDay 1: \nThis section describes the core elements of the relationship that constitute deconstructing the building blocks of the Self. By understanding these core elements\, clinicians have a roadmap for knowing when to listen and when to speak with attunement and authenticity\, as well as how to deconstruct relational impasses that impair trust. We also explore attachment\, identity formation\, and the relationship between family dynamics and ego structure. This section describes the bridge between pathogenic family dynamics and dissociative personality structure and its ensuing relational manifestations. \nDay 2: \nParticipants learn a model for EMDR-based assessment and treatment planning with the author’s Domains of Self Experience model. Next\, participants will learn a progression of phase four and somatic techniques to control and focus desensitization within the optimal zone of arousal—a signal contribution of the presenter. Participants will learn the Eye-Zone Differential technique for efficient\, neuropsychologically based ego state therapy. Finally\, participants will learn and practice a new and powerful method for attachment repair: The I-Gaze Interweave. This interactive workshop will include a live demonstration\, practicum\, and didactic material. \nAdd the EMDR in Couples Therapy training ( Day 3): $583.40 for both trainings: 3 days/19.5 CEs

SUMMARY:EMDR in Couples Therapy
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will describe an EMDR-based approach to couples therapy\, combining individual and systemic ideas. Dysfunctional patterns of relating in the family of origin can imprint themselves on the relational template of adults\, only to be re-enacted in the contemporary couple’s relationship. Because EMDR can effectively transform these earlier relational traumas\, adults can become less reactive\, enjoy greater distress tolerance\, and have a more resilient ego boundary. Participants will learn to turn “relational problems” into psychological solutions by utilizing EMDR in their conjoint therapy practice. \n (6.5 CEs) \nAdd the EMDR for Parts Integration with I-Gaze training ( Days 1-2): $583.40 for both trainings: 3 days/19.5 CEs
